PROJECT DETAILS:

Shelbyville High School had outgrown its weight room and needed dedicated space for its wrestling program. The new fitness and weightlifting additions are minimal in program and form but maximal in its volume. The simple shape pulls inspiration from multiple points of context around the campus with the addition of a new angular roof and overhang entry canopy complete with tree-like columns. The new entry allows visitors to view the new fitness and weight room while proceeding to the adjacent gymnasium and athletic rooms. The fitness and weight room itself is luxurious in head height with an industrial finish. There are 12 customized lifting stations directly placed into the rubber floor and space for other weights and cardio activities. The space includes an office and storage room.
